Top Ten Tuesday: Freebie

I’m a little disappointed in myself for letting the blogging slip just because i wasn’t keen on the topic last week and because I was tired (very lame excuses, I know!). My lovely friend Emma made a flying visit, which was lovely but apart from that I did nothing. It was the end of my overtime, which has come as a bit of a relief. 

Top Ten Tuesday is a blogging book tag started by the lovely ladies at Broke and Bookish. This week, they have left the topic of the blog post open, and allowed us to run wild with ideas as to what we could do the top ten on. I had a bit of a looksie through the past weeks and years TTT’s, and one that I haven’t done jumped out at me: Dynamic Duos:

1. Sophie and the B.F.G (The B.F.G by Roald Dahl) I always loved this book as a kid, and have probably grown to like it more and more as I have grown up. The oddball duo that is Sophie and the B.F.G are delightfully innocent, and charming.
2. Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee (Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkien) I love a good adventure, and this pair took that to the extreme. Totally dedicated to one another, and travelling to new places, shame about all the battles and the pesky ring really.
3. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson (The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) This pair compliment each other perfectly. The normality of Watson lessons the severe eccentricity of Holmes, and provides an element of realism and explanation to the stories. A match made in literary heaven.
4. Pooh and Piglet (The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh by A A Milne) Another adorable pairing form my childhood. Even though they sometimes go on their own adventures, they always come back to one another.
5. Meriadoc Brandybuck (Merry) and Peregrin Took (Pippin) (Lord of the Rings by J R R Tolkien) I am not sure how much of this is influenced by their film portrayals, but this pair of mischievous hobbits are delightfully refreshing in a heavy world and are two peas in a middle earth pod.
6. Wiress and Beetee (Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins) While this book is nothing on the first, and these two are in no way main characters, I like how they interact despite their problems, and how they use their minds and sharpness to by heroic.
7. Jonathon Payne and David ‘DJ’ Jones (Payne and Jones series by Chris Kuzneski) This pair of military, roguish bad asses risk life and limb for each other in a crazy show of risk, rewards, adventures, and crazy stories.
8. Lisbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stiegg Larsson) The autistic loner and the reporter are in no way alike, but accept each others quirks and differences to show how the most different of people can become the most dynamic of pairings.
9. George Milton and Lennie Small (Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck) No duos list about literary characters would be complete without school favourite George and Lennie.
10. Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger (Harry Potter series by J K Rowling) I know, this is technically a trio, but I just couldn’t resist. Standing the tests of love, war, time, school, and magic, this friendship group is probably my favourite that will ever be featured in literature.
