Helloooo fellow book lovers! The title of this post if pretty self explanatory, but, if you don’t know what cosy reading night is then you are in for a bit of a treat my friends! Hosted by the wonderful Lauren and the Books, cosy reading night is an opportunity to sit in a comfy corner, stock up on the snacks, and settle down with a good story. Sounds fabulous am I right?
The world is still a pretty crazy place right now, so it’s nice to have something to look forward to, keep us all in the house, and distract us from the dystopian film that is unfolding outside our front doors. Lockdown has been extended over here in the UK and as much as it was expected it was still a bit gutting to hear we had a another 3 weeks of this minimum, it’s nice to have something that will help us forget it all for a little while.
So a litte bit more about the cosy reading night before I dive into the books I will be enjoying! Cosy reading night is a semi-regular night of reding fun hosted by Lauren. The ‘Stay at home club’ cosy reading night is taking place on 17th April (the day this is posted) between 7pm and 10pm GMT. As much as it is an opportunity to chill and read, it’s also a great opportunity to connect on twitter and Instagram under #cosyreadingnight. One of the things I absolutely love about this is that it is on British time. So many readathons and readalongs are hosted on a USA centric basis, so it is really nice to have a reading night based and accessible for my time zone.
As I mentioned above, the world is awash with Covid-19 related news, content, scaremongering, fact finding, isolation madness. It’s pretty much swept the globe up and everyone with it, and as someone who works in travel, is pretty inescapable at the moment. So it couldn’t have some at a better time, cosy-ing up under a blanket with a Thai takeaway from my favourite Thai restaurant – nomnom. My life has changed a bit over the last two weeks. I am now officially working from home which is a big life change that I am adjusting to slowly, and I am starting to think more long term about being isolated as opposed to counting down the days until we’re unleashed.
The good news is that the O.W.Ls readathon 2020 is back and I am most definitely taking part and using it to get through this isolation and April. I signed up and started earlier this week (you can read that here) and I am super excited that this evening of reading will help me progress with that too! So with that in mind, tonight is going to be a night to read the two books I have already started for that readathon!

The Double Eagle James Twining
I genuinely absolutely love this series of books about Tom Kirk and recommend them to everyone. I haven’t read them in a while and wanted to throw it back to when I first really discovered thriller writing and fast paced narratives. I am a decent way through this so if I just sit and read and don’t get side-tracked there is a really good chance that I will finish this tonight!

he Near Witch V E Schwab
Anyone who knows me knows how much I love to read V’s work, and so I decided to through it back to her first book for one of my O.W.Ls challenges. I have so far listened to the audiobook which is, well it’s ok (the narration isn’t great) but I ma really enjoying the story. I think I might switch to the hard copy I own this evening if I somehow get bored of thrillers and art theft. This feels very fantastical and fairytale-y, so it might be a nice late night read before the cosy night in finishes.
So yeah, that is my Friday evening planned. It’s probably not the most exciting weekend anyone had heard of, but Emma and I are looking forward to it and we have prepared by eating some good food to keep us going throughout the evening!
Are you taking part? What are you reading?
