The Sunshine Blogger Award

I was looking for a light, fun Sunday post, and found that I had been nominated to complete this by the lovely Wandering Waffles.I haven’t posted as much about travel likely as I should have or would like to have, so this is the perfect way of getting my travel post shoes back on.

The Sunshine Blogger is an award given to bloggers by bloggers for bringing creativity, positivity and sunshine into the lives of readers. And of course, there are a few rules that we have to follow:

If you have also been nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award, please follow the given set of rules:

  • Thank the blogger(s) who nominated you in the blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger(s) asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write them 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award Logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Here are the 11 questions, thanks to Rishabh and Issy for nominating me, why don’t you check out their post here.

It’s Q&A time!

You come across Aladdin’s magic lamp and are granted only 1 wish by the Genie (cannot ask for more wishes). What is your one wish?

This is really hard. I mean there are so many things that would help me out that I could wish for. Hmm…I think I would wish for unlimited free access to any national park/sanctuary in the world. There are so many places that I would like to visit, and if I could have free and unlimited access to them, it would broaden my travel options significantly.

How did you get into blogging?

My friend Emma (@ The Terror of Knowing) already had a successful blog, and I quite liked the idea of it. And then I got a job on another continent that allowed me to travel, so a blog proved the easiest way to share what I was doing with friends and family in detail, and store memories for posterity’s sake. I have been blogging about books and travel, and a little about life, ever since.

What is the best blogging or life advice you have ever received?

I don’t think I have ever been given a single piece of advice that has made me think ‘that’s it, that’s the best advice I’ve ever been given’. I have always been told to live in the moment and to travel while I have the chance, so I’ve tried to live by those two for the most part.

What is at the top of your bucket list and who would you do it with?

My bucket list is always growing, and to be honest, there is no one thing that is at the very top. I really want to visit Machu Picchu, and I want to see the Taj Mahal. I’d love to visit every Disney park, and I’d love to see Liverpool FC win the league, with my family.

What is home for you?

Liverpool. The greatest city on Earth (or so I say at least). I am very lucky that I love my city and I am proud of it. Many of my friends and family live here or nearby, and it will always feel like home.

What is your ideal vacation destination?

Somewhere with ‘stuff to do’. I struggle somewhat with doing nothing on a beach, so I like places with culture, or history, or adventure, and I like places that are new to me. I like broadening my horizons, so if a place can teach or show me something that’s a bonus. More than anything, I like to go somewhere that’s completely different from my normal life.

What has been your favourite travel experience so far?

I mean, there have been so many. I’ve seen sunrise over Angkor Wat and Ha Long Bay, and sunset on the Mekong River. I’ve sat atop the Grand Canyon and the Grampians, drove along the great ocean road, and dived with sharks and turtles in Australia, Thailand, and Kenya. I’ve taken a boat into Niagara Falls, and walked along the top of Victoria falls. I’ve taken a ride in an Indy 500 car, gone on Safari in Tsavo and Kruger, skiied in Switzerland, and hiked on a glacier in Iceland. I am very very lucky.

What is a skill that you’re learning right now?

Embarrassingly, I am not learning anything right now. Well, that’s not true, I am embarking on a new area in work, which involves learning new systems, but other than that I am not learning anything.

I’m always trying to improve my blogging and photography skills, as I love taking pictures of books and food, and of course, documenting my travels.

What is something that made you laugh this week?

I have been absolutely hooked on the Mixed Doubles curling and ice skating during the Winter Olympics, and nothing has summed up the world’s reaction to this olympics than this hilarious tweet:

What is your favourite quote?

As I say in my About Page, I have a few favourites, so i’ve chosen a couple here:

  • “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious” Albert Einstein
  • “I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and the dreamer of improbable dreams” Matt Smith as Dr Who
  • “Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, and dreams are forever” Walt Disney
  • ”You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose” Dr. Seuss
  • “Me I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly it’s the honest ones you have to watch out for, you never can predict if they’re going to do something incredibly stupid” Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow
  • ”To travel is to live” Hans Christian Anderson

What is the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen recently?

I think the most fasincating thing I’ve read about recently has been the rules and scoring systems for Ice Skating. For example, a person could do 5 perfectly executed and landed triple jumps in a routine and score lower than someone who jumped but couldn’t land a quadruple jump. The scoring system rewards trying, rather than completing, which I am not sure I like.

I know, I am supposed to nominate a group of people as per the rules, but I am absolutely rubbish at that bit, so instead I nominate all of you. I urge you to take part and complete this, because if you have read it you are now nominated.
