Couch to 5K

If you’ve been following my blog for a little while, or have been scrolling through some of my recent posts, you’ll notice that a) I read a lot, b) I like travelling, and c) I’m currently on a weightloss and fitness regime that I’ve affectionately dubbed ‘Fat Friday’.

During my Fat Friday ‘journey’ I have dived head first into the world of dieting and the world of exercise. I decided to follow an age old method of weight loss and witness and scrap following fad diets. Simply, this is the Eat Less and Exercise More diet. So far, I’ve lost 20lbs, so I guess it could be labelled a success. The main discovery of the diet has, so far, been all about routine. Routine in eating, work balance, and exercising has been essential in sticking to my goal.

The latest thing I’ve thrown myself into is Couch to 5K. This running programme was created for the NHS Live Well scheme and aims to get you from the couch to running 5K (or 30mins) within 9 weeks. It sounds ambitious, but the myriad of resource and the essential (free) podcasts are a wealth of information and support to put you on a healthy, low cost path towards better fitness. For me, it offered the chance of a flexible, yet structured, work out plan, and helps me on the way to running a charity race and/or triathlon at some point down the line.

As with my Fat Friday posts, I’ve decided to create a place to record my progress, my findings, and my moans, in the hope that it both keeps me interested and engaged, whilst hopefully helping someone else like me!

Fat Friday: Week 10

Right now, as I am typing this, there is a layer of snow (albeit a very thin pathetic layer) on my car. (It’s similar to the level of snow I have discovered I can have as a feature on my blog). We rarely get snow in Liverpool. And even more rarely get snow in December. This is momentous, thank you Storm Caroline. I’m also getting ready for Christmas; I have started wrapping, and I am thinking about Christmas cards, and my advent calendars are being enjoyed. I just love this time of year! I am also looking forward to a weekend away in London with Emma, a weekend that we have been planning since January 16th.

Fat Friday: Week 9

It’s December. It’s almost Christmas. It’s absolutely freezing outside. I’ve gone into full blown Christmas preparation mode now, because I love Christmas! But Christmas is already bringing temptation after temptation, and i’ m already worrying about how I’ll cope with dieting during the festive period, or, how I’ll get back on the horse if I decide to stop for a couple of weeks. Decisions, decisions.

Fat Friday: Week 8

Happy Thanksgiving! It’s Black Friday everyone, even all of us here in the UK have embraced this shopping phenomenon and taken it as an excuse to go crazy with our cards an buy things that we definitely didn’t need but absolutely wanted. I’ve taken it as a prime opportunity to crack on with my Christmas shopping! Thanksgiving was always going to be a hard week for me for a multitude of reasons, but, throw in an impromptu cake sale and recovering from illness, and it became even harder. Let’s not moan too much though eh?

Another week has flown by. I’ve turned 26 by celebrating in some of the most low-key ways possible, and I’ve been ill. So, it’s been a mixed week. This is going to be a short one folks, because I am too bunged up and full of cold to concentrate for too long, but I didn’t want a week to float by without a post.

Fat Friday: Week 6 @ The Killers

Good evening, ladies and gentleman! The weekend is upon us, and for me, my birthday weekend is here. I have four days off work with very little planned, and I am looking forward to it immensely! To be fair the celebrations really started last night at The Killers: Wonderful, Wonderful Tour but it’s nice to have a few days off to do not very much.

I fell from the wagon, hard last week, and if I am honest, I haven’t truly got back on this week. I haven’t exercised once (which I am very annoyed at myself about) and I haven’t eaten that well in comparison to earlier weeks in this diet, so it could have been better, but at least it wasn’t as bad as last week. Onwards and upwards.

Fat Friday: Week 5

It’s November. Winter is well and truly coming. The weather has suddenly turned and it’s no freezing all the time, and the clocks went back last weekend which means it is now super dark super early. I don’t want to become an old person and talk about the short days, but the lack of light at night sucks.

I’m avoiding the main issue here. Guys, I’ve had a bad week. A really terrible, bad, horrendous week. I have fallen off the wagon and I am struggling to get back on. I am disappointed and angry at myself, and most importantly, I am gutted that this major setback in mindset is probably going to have a detrimental effect on my progress. Grrrrr.
