Tag | 30 Interesting Questions

Happy Summery Saturday to all you lovely people! This Saturday I am straying a little away from books and into the world of random facts. Sarah of Sarah Withers Blogs tagged me in a 30 interesting Questions tag and I thought I would give it a go!

1. What are your nicknames? What do you prefer to be called?

I really don’t have any nicknames. My full name (Elizabeth) has a huge number of shortenings, so those are mainly where any semblance of a nickname comes from. I used to pretty much exclusively go by Lizzi when I was in school – busy Lizzi if people wanted to put a spin on it, and as I have grown up that has shortened again to Liz. I played darts at university and my walk down name/nickname was The President because of my last name – that’s about as close as I have got.

2. How often do you doodle? What do your doodles look like?

I doodle mostly when I am on the phone and it tends to me symmetrical line patterns, paper aeroplanes, and Eeyore. I know, there is no link, but I have learnt how to draw a decent Eeyore and paper aeroplane, and line drawings are therapeutic. I don’t particularly doodle in special books, it’s more on the sides/backs of things.

3. What do you do if you can’t sleep at night? Do you count sheep? Toss and turn? Try to get up and do something productive?

I tend to get up, move round and do something out of my bedroom so that when I go back to bed, it’s like resetting my bedtime routine, I have also found a good 30min yoga video that is really relaxing. I also have a blue light filter on my phone, and will listen to the sound of rain if I still can’t sleep. I also put as many of the programmes I use on dark mode where possible to lower the amount of stimulating light. (For those who want out to check out the video, click here.)

4. Do people consider you to be talkative or quiet?

I think I can be both, but would definitely say I am on the talkative end of the spectrum. I am always told that I end up talking to anyone and everyone about pretty much anything.

5. What makes you cry?

I am not really much of a crier. I don’t get anything carthatic out of crying, and it pretty much only comes on when I am in pain, or really frustrated at myself, or both, and even then I don’t really cry if I can avoid it.

6. What is your biggest pet peeve?

This is going to be a long list.

People who willingly use incorrect grammar, like your instead of you’re. Being late. Giving children names that are normal but with a purposely new/innovative/idiotic spelling to make if ‘different’. Putting milk in your tea before the water. Walking in trainers where the backs are downtrodden. Socks and sandals. Not respecting culture when going to a new country. People who say they like curry but only ever order a korma or a tikka masala.

7. How many times a day do you look at yourself in the mirror?

Not that often. I don’t not check out of hatred for myself, or to train myself out of vanity, I just don’t have a habit of doing it. I look in the mirror when I am getting ready in the morning, and I look in the mirror above the sinks at work, and that is pretty much it.

8. What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?

I don’t particularly remember believing anything weird or strange as achild. I am quite sure that I did, but I don’t remember any of them.

9. What is the guilty pleasure you enjoy too much to give up?

I like reading trashy throwaway chick lit new-adult fiction. It is my trashy TV/dodgy rom-com.

10. Who performs the most random acts of kindness out of everyone you know?

I really don’t know, and I kind of like that. I try to do my bit and like to think that my friends do the same where and when they can.

11. How often do you read the newspaper? Which sections?

I rarely read the newspaper because they are so politically influenced in the UK, I get most of my news online nowadays from a variety of sources, so I tend to only read the sports pages if I read a paper, and I only tend to read then when they’re free (like in the Drs, hairdressers, getting onto a plane).

12. Which animal scares you the most?

I hate octopi/podes/uses. I don’t know what the plural actually is, but I know I hate them. They are creepy as anything, and they are going to take over the world. They can get out of screwed containers and move along the sea floor in a really creepy way and I NOPE. I don’t really like wasps either, but I am getting better with those now.

13. Are you more likely to avoid conflict or engage with it?

I will 100% assess the situation and make a judgement call. If the conflict is something I am involved in, I have grown quite comfortable in moving away, assessing how I feel and think, and then attempting to resolve later when people are calmer. I rarely let things lie, but I don’t always engage right away for fear of worsening the situation.

If it is someone I care about then that is a whole different kettle of fish. I will engage and leap to the defence of people. I don’t mean to, but I don’t like to see people I care about attacked, flounder, or feel unsupported.

14. What is the most recent compliment you’ve received?

At the time of writing, people have been complimenting my Kimono choice (it’s bright red and flowery) and I’ve had multiple compliments on my mood/smile this morning (probably because it is my last day in before 2 and a half weeks of annual leave!)

15. What question are you tired of hearing?

Are you dating anyone?

a) It is precisely none of your business what I do or do not do in my personal life, and if I wanted you to know then I would have told you.

b) I am happy on my own and do not need someone to fulfil my full quota of being a person, so why does it matter?

c) You don’t know what is going on behind closed doors, which could make that question extremely loaded/upsetting/attacking.

scorpion16. What is the strangest thing you have eaten?

I used to live in Thailand, so I have no idea about some of the things I have eaten. Some of the weirder ones I am aware of though….antelope, scorpion, snake, lizard, dolphin, fermented egg, and despite my hatred, octopus.

17. Do you have a whole lot of acquaintances or just a few very close friends?

I would say both. I have some very close friends, but also a lot of acquaintances. I am still friends with lots of people from old jobs, school, university, and so I know a lot people.

18. Do you have a catchphrase?

I don’t think that I have one, but there are phrases that I say more in the presence of certain people. For example, with my housemate, I will often say Harsh..but fair (because we love the film Wimbledon) but that is the only thing really.

19. What’s your all-time favourite town or city? Why?

I am pretty partial to my home city Liverpool. It’s big without being huge, has everything you could want – great food, great people, great parks, great sport, great music, rivers, tours – so I have to say my home town. Otherwise, it is probably Chicago for very similar reasonings!

20. If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to?

I really don’t know if I would change my name. I like the versatility that comes with having a long name with lots of shortenings, it gives me the option to pretty much change it anyway. I’ve been Elizabeth, Lizzi, Liz, who knows, I might transition into a Betty when I am 85.

21. When was the last time you lied?

Erm…I’m not sure if I am honest. Probably to say I’m good when I’m not, or as an excuse to get out of something I really didn’t want to do.

22. What’s something that amazes you?

The ability for anyone in the creative arts, playwright, author, poet, artist, performer, to put their heart and soul into a piece of art and then put it out into the world for judgement, and then take that and do it again and again.

I also find physicists incredibly amazing. They see and understand the world on a grander and smaller scale than anyone else and are constantly discovering new and incredible things about our universe, our lives, it’s truly amazing.

23. Would you rather be the first person to explore a planet or be the inventor of a drug that cures a deadly disease?

I would 100% rather be the creator of a drug. Don’t get me wrong, I love exploring and seeing new places, and wouldn’t it be amazing to stamp your name in history for being the first person somewhere, but, that’s all it was. The first person to go somewhere that loads of people may then go. The inventor of a drug is a lasting legacy and impact that will literally change the lives of lots of people to come.

24. What is your favourite amateur activity?

I like to knit and cross stitch. I am not that good, but I enjoy it.

25. What was your first thought when you got up this morning?

Urgh, why is it so light at 4:30am? Well at least it’s my last shift in for 2 and a half weeks, I can’t wait to set my out of office on.

26. What is your favourite song (at least at the moment)?

My favourite song ever is Live and Let Die by Wings. I love it. The song of the moment is Endless Night from the Original West End cast recording of The Lion King Musical.

Emma from The Terror of Knowing

Who wants 5 worlds when they can have 5 titles?

28. You can select one person from history and have them truthfully answer one question. Who would you select and what would the question be?

I think I would ask Copernicus about the moment he realised that our solar system is helio-centric. I find him fascinating as it is, but I would want to know about the moment he realised and how he felt – it was such a momentous moment in history.

29. Which celebrity or artist do you resemble the most?

I don’t think I particularly resemble anyone to be honest, but, I like to think that I resemble Merida from Disney Pixar’s Brave.

30. What do you want me to know?

I am a certified deep and nitrox scuba diver, my favourite animals are bats, my favourite colour is red, and I can’t eat bananas.

Well, there you have it, you definitely probably know a little bit more about me! I have stolen the frankly brilliant idea of tagging the top people in your reader from Sarah, so please do not feel obligated to complete if you don’t want to. If you fancy a go, tag me back so I can get to know you a little better too!

I tag Paige, Emma, Ayunda, Rachel, Nikki, and Arya. And YOU!
