New Year’s Resolution Book Tag

I know it’s nearing the end of January, but having a little bit of time to think about this tag has actually made it much easier to finish! I saw it doing the round at the end of last year/beginning of this year, and when my friend Emma @ The Terror of Knowing posted hers the other day I thought now was the perfect time! Here goes:

1. An author you’d like to read (that you’ve never read before)

This is probably one of the easiest questions I have ever seen in a tag because there are two readers that have written books that I have really wanted to read. Samantha Shannon and Roshani Chokshi both have books that I think would be right up my street so I am planning on reading stuff by them soon (like, this weekend soon).

2. A book you’d like to read

I mean everything from my Books You Didn’t Get to in 2018 list but I think mainly Our Dark Duet and Vengeful by V E Schwab. I have managed to stay spoiler free for both, and I she has more stuff coming out this year so the need to ration her books is reducing nicely.

3. A classic you’d like to read

I actually found that I really quite enjoyed Great Expectations, and I am a big fan of 1984, so I think I’d like to get to A Tale of Two Cities and Animal Farm. I think I would like them both, and they’re definitely not too long to put me off.

4. A book you’d like to re-read

OK, I went through the whole year without re-reading in 2018 (illustrated version of Harry Potter aside and in my defence I had not read them in that format before) so this year I think I am going to revisit the books that I am itching to pick up again, and right now that is Six of Crows and Shades of Magic because they are glorious and enough time has passed to re-read them and love them now.

5. A book you’ve had for ages and want to read

I mean there are lots and lots that could fall into this category, I have a lot of books, but I think the one that instantly springs to mind if Katherine Arden’s The Bear and the Nightingale. It was the first giveaway book I ever won, with the second in the series, and I was looking forward to it so much but for some reason never actually got round to reading it.

6. A big book you’d like to read

I recently won a giveaway for Samantha’s Shannon’s tome The Priory of the Orange Tree which I believe has over 800 pages. It’s bright orange and probably the size of at least two house bricks so that’s a big book, right?

7. An author you’ve previously read and want to read more of

I have really discovered the amazing world of fantasy over the last couple of years, and even though I have loved their books, I haven’t read enough V E Schwab or Neil Gaiman. They’re gloriously brilliant authors and write incredible stories. I have a lot more to enjoy by them both!

8. A book you got for Christmas and would like to read

I got some really good books this Christmas, but I think the one that is standing out the most right now is The Proposal. I really enjoyed The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory, and this is the next one of her books. It’s different in genre to what I am reading right now too which I think increases its appeal.

9. A series you want to read (start and finish)

I don’t know if you can say that reading a series from start to finish counts if it’s not a finished series, but, I really want to read The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon because the more I hear about it, the more I can’t understand why I haven’t already devoured it. This is getting to be a Samantha Shannon love in haha!

10. A series you want to finish (that you’ve already started)

I actually really quite like The Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman, because who doesn’t love time travelling, world bending, dragon featuring, library set books that go to all the best times in history. I have read the first two, but own the series and need to finish it.

11. Do you set reading goals? If so, how many books do you want to read in 2019?

So usually I set the goal initially on Goodreads at 52 and then change it to 75 and then to 90 if it’s manageable and so on. This time I have just gone for it and set it straight for 100. It’s ambitious but doable, the best kind of goal right?

12. Any other reading goals?

Oh lots, like always, all of which are handily listed in my 2019 Resolutions and 2019 Reading Resolutions posts. The mainly surround hitting non-fiction and classics targets, and increasing the amount I review, because my review rate and NetGalley ratio are atrocious.

That’s it for the New Year’s Resolutions Tag. January may be drawing to a close but it’s not too late to tag yourself and set some goals for the remainder of 2019. Please consider yourself tagged, and leave a comment below about your reading resolutions. Are we working towards the same things? Do we want to read the same books? I can’t wait to hear from you!

  1. Yes yes yes you need to read The Bear and the Nightingale! And then immediately read The Girl in the Tower! And then immediately read The Winter of the Witch! I haven’t read the last one yet but I except great things. The first 2 were really good! The Invisible Library series is set to have at least 8 books! :O My NG ratio is also terrible…*cough*16%*cough* But this year I am determined to do better.

    1. I really need to read them. They have been sitting on my shelf (the first two, I don’t own The Winter of the Witch…yet) and I want to read them so much!!
8 books?!?!?! WHHATTTTT!! I did not know this. I have read the first two and own the first five. I clearly need to do some catching up!!
OK so mine doesn’t seem so bad now then, I think it’s about 67%, but to be fair I have very recently read and reviewed 3 things on there to boost it.

      1. Re: The Invisible Library I’ve read the first one and own the first five! The next three will be out over the next few years. Cogman has said on GR that her publisher has signed for 8 but there’s always the possibility of more books with popularity. I would love to see a TV showwww!!! I’m so excited about this series and yet have only read the first one. lol.
