Fat Friday: Week 31

Oops I did it again! I know, I realise it’s Saturday but in my defence we’re having the best weather we’ve had in months and my friends are to visit us for the weekend, so I have been a little bit preoccupied. I’ve had a busy week at work, followed by a couple of days of catching up and getting outdoors. I think the summer is arriving, and I am all about this better weather, this can stay.

Last weekend was nice and sedate. Emma and I didn’t have a huge amount planned aside from football, so we made the most of relaxing and doing as little as we could. We zumba-ed and we read, and we tidied around the house ready for a week at work for me, and a few days away for Emma. I was heading into 2 late shifts followed by 3 day shifts, which I knew would play havoc with my eating schedule and ability to exercise, but I went into the week feeling good anyway.

While Emma was away, I tried my best to eat relatively healthy, but also to eat my main meal at work. I think it worked in the sense that I controlled what I ate somewhat, but the later shifts are just not compatible with me eating a small/low amount. I find I snack more and eat more at meals and it just isn’t great. Thankfully, my parents got my back onto the healthy eating train with fajita bowls. They have these really cool presses that bake wraps into bowls (I think I need to get some) and it was the perfect meal to eat before heading out to the football.

I think we all know I am a big sports fan, and football is my true sporting love. There was no chance of going to Rome to watch Liverpool play the away leg of their Champions League semi final, so I went with my parents to watch it with lots of other fans at Anfield. I know it wasn’t full, and the players weren’t even in the same country never mind stadium, but it was an amazing atmosphere full of optimistic chanting fans. I like that way of watching the game, if I can’t go and watch Liverpool in the final in Kiev (which I don’t think I will be able to do – tickets are impossible to come by, as are flights) I might do the same again.

The rest of the working week was spent cleaning and tidying the house ready for the arrival of our uni friends Emma and Cath. We haven’t had a catch up for 6 months, since we visited Birmingham Christmas markets last year, so we were excited for them to arrive, and they could not have picked a better weekend!! Not going to lie, a lot of our plans are around food. We visited Bakchich for breakfast with Cathy, we’ve picniced in the evening, and we’re planning a Tavern breakfast tomorrow to start our day before travelling to Chester, so yes, food is going to be the centre of our weekend.

The weather is stunning. Cathy arrived yesterday, Sarah at lunchtime today, and we had a lovely stroll around Liverpool City Centre. I am pretty proud of my city, and when the building and sites are set against a clear blue sky, everything looks absolutely stunning. We took in the waterfront, walked through the city, and then instead of going out for dinner, collected picnic foods from the supermarket and settled down fora picnic in the local park. It was too good a day to waste, so we just sat around for a couple of hours nibbling on the food we bought and having a good catch up before a walk around the park lake. I went to Chester a couple of weeks ago, and remembered how much I love it there, so we’re going to make the most of the weather and I’m going to show the other 3 round (they’ve never been).

OK, so I have put the 0.5lb that I lost last week back on, but I haven’t had the chance to exercise much, I have been in work a lot, I’ve had a couple of beers, and I’ve had a couple of beers when I have been in the house and at the football, so it’s not a surprise. I feel OK though, I don’t feel annoyed or like I am that out of the rhythm, and I feel like the good weather is putting me in a great mood. Plus, I will probably eat less in the warm weather which is a nice bonus.

  1. Hi lovely! Oooh, a fajita bowl sound awesome! I’m loving this warmer weather, I’m off to a BBQ tomorrow so I’m sure I’ll end up consuming a weeks worth of calories in one sitting 😳 Oh well, at least having a tan makes you look thinner!
