Fat Friday: Week 22

How are we all on this absolutely perishing March evening? It’s been a cold one this week, hasn’t it?! The beast from the East, and now Storm Emma, has been causing absolute havoc this week. The snow has been quite pretty to look at but driving to work in it hasn’t been a fun experience, and it’s grounded so many flights that it’s made work that much busier and harder. It has made me curl up in the house and do some things I should probably have done a long time ago and haven’t got round to though, so it has its plus points. I’m pretty sure it’s due to snow again over night :/.

Emma told me all about an app called Plant Nanny this week, and I swear it has ruled my life ever since it was introduced. It uses your body statistics to calculate how much water you should drink a day, and then you simply water the plant (and yourself of course) every time you have water. It’s pretty great for making you drink more, but she is a cranky task master. I also have to drink loads of water when I have her on my phone. Literally litres, like 3.6L a day. I know it’s going to make me feel heavier and bloated for a little while, but hopefully in the long run it will make me feel better. I think I’ve already noticed that it does suppress my appetite a little.

I’ve really tried to keep up with my exercise promise this week, and actually gone to exercise classes/the gym. I did Zumba at the weekend again, and I’ve been enjoying Yoga with Adrienne. Her 20 days of Yoga plan is pretty good, as is her 7 minute bedtime yoga workout, so she has been keeping my exercise levels up. I’m worried that by the end I will get irritated with her but so far so goo. I was supposed to go to more exercise classes yesterday, but the trains played havoc getting Emma home in time for Zumba and I didn’t fancy leaving the gym in -2degrees with wet hair after aquacise.

I went to the gym earlier this week, and I really tried to work quite hard. I have discovered some of the weight and resistance machines that don’t kill me or my back but make me feel like I am doing something arm wise. I have also found a really good level on the bike. Don’t get me wrong, it makes me feel great and like I really worked out at the time, but the gym is soul destroying, and my legs are always heavy and sore after going for it on the bike. Sigh. I do feel more fit though, I think I am really starting to feel the difference in my fitness levels, even if I can’t feel the weight loss yet.

I’ve had a few thoughts this week about cleaning and tidying, both in my e-life and my real life. I posted about cleaning up my blog and about finally sorting out my room, and one is going better than the other. I really haven’t done anything with my blog since. Yes, I looked into it, but quickly realised that I actually needed to think about where I want to go and what I want to do with my blog before I start changing things. As for my bedroom, well I started to sort a lot of it out, I bought a new jacket/coat hook situation for the back of my door, and I moved some furniture around. Turns out I am going to move it all back, mainly because my parents have an old bookcase that they don’t want anymore that would fit perfectly in my room right where I was going to purchase one for. So yes, it’s getting there, it’s by no means done, but it’s getting there!

I have really tried to get back to cooking more varied foods again. We’ve fallen into the habit of having fajitas and wrap pizzas a lot of late, so I have ventured back to making Chilli again, and diving into slow cooker meals. I made a concoction earlier in the week that literally had everything and anything I could get my hands on in it. It looked like scouse/slop, tasted slightly spicy and peppery. It was nice, but you know when you make something and can never recreate it again no matter how hard you try to? Yeah that was this – think George’s Marvellous Medicine of stew. I also made our version of roasted veggies and chicken again at the weekend. I didn’t really give Emma a choice, I wanted it and so went right ahead and made it. To be fair, she did the same when we had scrambler a day later.

The problem with this time of year is the snacks though. Hot Cross Buns are back, and they are as glorious as ever. Mini Eggs are back, the king of the small chocolate world, and missed during the rest of the year.

Let’s be real, the snow is where it is at this week. We’ve all been complaining about it whilst praying it falls harder so we can enjoy going out and acting like children in it. I don’t mind the snow or the cold, I can prepare and wrap up warm, what I don’t like is this ‘feels like’ crap. The Baltic wind can swivel right off, I am fed up of the wind chill. I have seen some amusing Facebook posts though, which have made me smile. On a more serious note, stay safe and wrap up people!

This week has been alright. Could have been better and could have been worse. I hear Storm Emma and The Beast from the East aren’t done yet and that the weekend is still going to be cold and windy. Wonderful, just what we need!

  1. I am so cold I’ve basically hibernated this week. I’m incredibly impressed that you did so much exercise – I can barely get off the sofa! Although I did basically put all my clothes on and went for a walk on one of the days when it wasn’t quite so blizzardy. God I love mini eggs, but random veg stews is definitely where it’s at! Also soup – I use 4 sticks of celery, an onion, a carrot and a couple of spuds (plus anything else that’s hanging around in the fridge – a bit of kale, a parsnip, whatever). Add a couple of pints of water and a stock cube, simmer until the veg is soft then blitz in a blender. It’s so tasty and thick and you can freeze whatever you don’t eat. 😊

    1. I know Right, hibernation outside of work has been the way to go for sure!!
      It was all at the beginning of the week or in my own house Haha, wish I did more this week though really :/. At least I have the Beast to blame!!
      Mini eggs are my soulmates. They’re so good.
      I used to make soup all the time and haven’t for so long, I should look into it again. Thanks for the tip!!
