The 140 Character Review: Series of Unfortunate Events 1-7

I absolutely love a good children’s book. Who doesn’t, right? Last year I embarked on a re-read of the full set of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events and loved reliving the ridiculous and slightly out there stories surrounding the Baudelaire Orphans. The new Netflix Series starts next month, so, I thought I would do a 140 Character Review post to get ready for the launch. I’m so excited for season 2!

The 140 Character Review is my short and concise way of expressing my feelings on watch I watch and read. Throwing it back to the original twitter limit of 140 characters, I try to summarise my opinions to tweet length. To read other 140 Character Review posts, click here.

The Bad Beginning | Lemony Snicket

Utterly miserable, inventive, intellectual and creative with some truly deplorable acts and characters and semi-unrecognisable world.

The Reptile Room | Lemony Snicket

Uncle Monty and his snakes provide a welcome break from the unrelenting horror for the orphans, but not for long, such brilliant similes!

The Wide Window | Lemony Snicket

A bit much, and just too unbelievable, the guardian is pathetic and events ridiculous, but Snicket’s witty interludes are delightful

The Miserable Mill | Lemony Snicket

Ridiculous, creepy, completely unable to suspend to disbelief to carry the overall plot. Nothing but a sub-adequate filler novel

The Austere Academy | Lemony Snicket

Fairly forgettable plot-wise, and what’s remembered was average but fun and strong intro to relevant future characters in the Quagmires.

The Ersatz Elevator | Lemony Snicket

Love the concept of ‘in and out’ and hilarious things that qualify. Occasional light moments in a drab life story. The Squalor’s are funny.

The Vile Village | Lemony Snicket

An enjoyable place holder with amusing purposeful contradictions and clever entertaining riddles, but with intricacies that are forgettable

Do you like A Series of Unfortunate Events?

What did you think about these instalments?

Will you be watching the new Netflix series when it starts again in March?
