24 in 48 Readathon

24in48So…..there is this readathon on all weekend. A readathon that I’ve never heard of, but that Emma was participating in, so I thought I would give it a go. It is called 24 in 48, and it is pretty simple really: Try to read for 24hrs in a 48hr period this weekend. Seems easy enough to attempt, if you have the weekend off and stuff. But no, no way, I didn’t take this on sitting at home enjoying a weekend off, I’ve done it on a weekend where I am in both days for a full shift. Well….gotta love a challenge!

I know what you’re thinking, I’ve taken on too much and I should just enjoy my time over the weekend. Fact is, I like reading, I am in the groove with reading, and to be honest, I had absolutely nothing else planned except from watching Taboo, so it was really as good a weekend as any. Work is quiet now as the January rush dies down and Trump is being inaugurated, so it was a good day to get some reading done.

So with that in mind, what is it, how does it work, and who created this? Well, 24 in 48 has all the details, but simply, track reading as much as you can with the aim of it being 24hrs in 48hrs over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd January. It’s low key, with few rules and even less pressure. You can read more, you can read less, it’s up to you. Once you’ve committed, sign up and track your own/other progress all over the internet.

24in48tbrTo keep things interesting, and stop me going slightly crazy, I have a good variety of books. I’m re-reading A Series of Unfortunate Events so I thought, as I said I would read them in my Friday Reads post yesterday, that I would finish reading The Austere Academy and hopefully read The Ersatz Elevator. If I am shifting through them, or get bored of my other reads, I may stretch to The Vile Village.

In addition to these children’s books, I am also reading The Counsellor by Cormac McCarthy, which is a short screenplay, and shouldn’t take long to finish. I am also going to be reading (finally) Live and Let Die and Sin City Volume 1: The Hard Goodbye. I also have at least 2 hours of commuting this weekend, so while I am driving, I will also be listening to Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman!

So, snacks are at the ready, books are prepared, and work is happening. What will you be reading this weekend?

  1. This sounds great! Totally would have tried this had I known before – will look out for the next 🙂 I’ve also been thinking of rereading Series of Unfortunate Events! Still to tackle the Netflix series but it looks pretty good – have you watched any?
This weekend I’m getting started on The Story of A New Name, the second Elena Ferrante Neapolitan series 🙂

    1. It’s not too late to join for most of the weekend! Definitely check it out when it is next on!!
I am re-reading it because I am watching the show. I have seen 7 of 8 episodes, and so far it’s been really good. Very Wes Anderson/Tim Burton-y stylised and true to the books. Definitely worth checking out!!
I’ve never heard of that series, I will have to check it out!

      1. Ah cool that sounds great! Yeah looks/sounds like the style fits the books much better than the movie did!
